Each year, the National Book Critics Circle presents awards for the finest books published in English in six categories: Fiction, Nonfiction, Biography, Autobiography, Poetry, and Criticism. In addition, they award the John Leonard Prize for the best first book in any genre; the Gregg Barrios Book in Translation Prize, for the best book of any genre translated into English and published in the United States; the Nona Balakian Citation for Excellence in Reviewing; and the Ivan Sandrof Lifetime Achievement Award and Toni Morrison Achievement Award.
Please join us for the National Book Critics Circle Awards for books published in 2023.
While our finalists reading and post-award reception are currently sold out, there are plenty of free seats left for the ceremony and we would love to see you there! Register below for the awards ceremony either in-person or over livestream (both free!) as we celebrate the best books of the year.
This event is co-sponsored by Wildbound Book PR, The New School Creative Writing Program, Brooklyn Brewery, Good Vodka, Purslane, C. Cassis, Curious Elixers and the National Book Critics Circle.
Presented by the Creative Writing Program at the Schools of Public Engagement.

ABOUT NBCC
The National Book Critics Circle, a 501(c)3 nonprofit, was founded in 1974 at the Algonquin Hotel by a group of the most influential critics of the day and awarded its first set of honors the following year. Comprising more than 600 working critics and book-review editors throughout the country, the NBCC annually honors the best books published in the United States and bestows several other special prizes. The finalists for the awards are nominated, evaluated and selected by the elected Board of Directors.
For more information about the activities and services of the NBCC, and to learn how to join or become a supporter, visit bookcritics.org.
Please considering making a tax-deductible donation to NBCC. Every dollar goes to supporting and encouraging the art and craft of literary criticism.
